****************************

Biren: - Issh…Mrinalini, I have never ever thought in my dreams also that, today at the age of 64 years, I have to lit fire at my son’s dead body.

Mrinalini: - What can we do? Maybe, it was written in our destiny…maybe, we have committed some sin in our previous birth, which is why, we are suffering now.

****************************

Shailesh: - Hello Pinaki!, have you read the newspaper today?

Pinaki:- Yes, that is why, I am already hiding in Mumbai…you also go underground for some days…to save yourself…

****************************

Indranil: - I was just literally shocked to hear that, this person, who was one of my best friends is no more with us…We have already requested the Police Department to do a detailed investigation in this matter…I hope, you, the media people will leave me now. I am getting late now… I have to attend our party meeting at Alimuddin Street.

Manjari: - Viewers, Just now you have seen, the Health Minister of West Bengal is also literally shocked by hearing the news of this murder .…We will come back with more news, regarding this murder, after this commercial break…

Part – 02

Kavita: - Inspector Ramen called you. He was saying that, there is one case, which can only be solved by you. He has not revealed any other details regarding that case. He will again call you after half an hour.

Arindam: - Hmm…the day before yesterday only, I solved a case and I was hoping that I could spend quality time with my family at least for 1 week. But, see the fun; again, I have to be busy for solving a case. I hope you will not mind, my sweet heart…

Kavita: - aah marron…khaali nyakami…if you are so unhappy with your job, then why do you do that job? Uuh….Special Investigating Officer of CID…aahaaa…haa...

Arindam: - Ok, let me just give you a kiss…because I have to go…Bye bye, sweetu…

Kavita:- sonoh…Don’t be late tonight…Kolkata is not at all a safe city…Every day or the other, there are lots of murder happening here and there….Being a CID officer, don’t be so complacent, dear…

Arindam: - I know, you are my wife…you people give orders to your hubby in the form of requests…he he he…ok, dear…I will come back home soon…

****************************

Ramen: - Oh! Welcome Mr. Arindam, we were waiting for you only. Here is a case for you, where the Health Minister personally, has appealed about the investigation of this case to the Kolkata High Court, and the Court has decided to submit this case to the CID. So, you are the concerned person, in this regard. Please take care. This is the entire Case-file.

Arindam: - What the case is all about?

Ramen: - It’s a murder case of one the reputed doctors of Kolkata. His name is Dr. Subhendu Banerjee. We have received a letter at the murder spot, which has been written by his wife Mrs. Roopali Banerjee, stating that she has murdered him. We are yet to trace Roopali…

Arindam: - Where is the post-mortem report?

Ramen: - Well, we will be receiving it within 1 hour or so.

Arindam: - If you don’t mind Inspector Ramen, I want to search his house.

Ramen:- Of course, the case is now totally yours, do whatever you feel like…We are there to support you only.

Arindam: - Just hang on…as per that letter, it is evident that the murderer is his wife…then why there is a CID probe?

Ramen: - Because, our Health Minister personally believes that, Roopali has not murdered him. And you will be surprised to know, that our Health Minister was a very close friend of Dr. Subhendu. Maybe, it is just an emotional craziness from his side, you can say…he he he …

Arindam: - Sometimes this kind of craziness helps to prove the criminals, that they are actually a Kalidas…

Ramen: - Sorry, Arindam, I can’t get you…

Arindam: - Ha ha ha …that is the reason, I am in the CID, and you are in the Police Department.

Ramen: - Anyway, Best of Luck for this case…I will provide you the post-mortem report, within 8 PM tonight.

Johnny: - Sir! Sir, we have searched the house of Dr. Subhendu, we have received only these things. The picture albums of his married life, the story books and a personal diary.

Arindam: - Just let me see this picture album. Let me see, how his wife Roopali looked like?

Johnny: - Sir, probably, this personal diary can help you.

Arindam: - Ok, let me keep this diary and the picture album with me. These story books, you keep it at the shelf only. I am now going back home. Tomorrow, we will meet again at the Lalbazaar.

Johnny: - Ok Sir, as you wish!

****************************

Sonali: - Hello!, it is Sonali speaking….where is my money? I want it within 24 hours in the Keoratala Graveyard. I will wait for your men to come there.

****************************

Somnath: - Hello!, Indranil babu, I am the Police Commissioner Somnath. Can you please tell me, what really prompt you to do the CID probe in this case?

Indranil:- The good and healthy relation between Subhendu and Roopali…If they were having such a beautiful chemistry between them as husbands and wife, then how is it possible that, Subhendu has been murdered by Roopali?

Somnath: - Indranil babu, do you have any proof about that? See, in today’s’ life, anything can happen. Maybe, who knows, they were having a bitter time in their married life, but they never gave the chance to the external world to know about that.

Indranil: - Well, maybe, but still I want to clarify it.

****************************

Bumba: - today, our medical college will remain closed, as our Dr. Subhendu has expired yesterday.

Preetha: - But, what about our exams today?

Bumba: - All exams are cancelled today. Please go back home and have a nice afternoon nap.

Preetha: - Please…sab bisoy earki mero naa…boley dilum…accha, how can a woman kill Dr. Subhendu. He was so nice and a cool person. Not only that, he was one of the best surgeons in Kolkata…

Bumba: - How can I know, what has happened? CID is there to look into that matter. Come on, I have two movie tickets of “Rock On”; let us enjoy that film at Menoka Cinema Hall.

Preetha: - Ok, not an issue…

****************************

Manjari: - Hello viewers, last night, Kolkata Police have found a dead body in the Rashbehari Avenue. She is a student of the same medical college, where Dr. Subhendu used to teach his students.

Kavita: - So, what the case is all about?

Arindam: - Have you not watched the news in your favorite “Star Ananda” channel today? It is showing there that Dr. Subhendu has been murdered by his wife. Baabah, if you have any complain, just tell me frankly, but don’t murder me babah…

Kavita: - Dhaaath…tumi naah…eke baarey jaah taah…I have made Gajar ka Haluwa today…Just wash your hands, I will serve you right now…Oh! There is another murder case, which is of a girl named Sonali, a student of the same Medical College, where Dr. Subhendu used to teach.

Arindam: - Ya ya, I have received the SMS from Inspector Ramen, but he is saying that, her boyfriend has murdered her. Ok, quickly bring your special Gajar ka Haluwa, I am feeling very hungry, dear….I have to read this little “Doctor’s Diary”. Uff, the diary pages are too small, and the handwriting is so big, baapre baap…

****************************

Page 1 of the Doctor’s Diary

Today is 15th July 1989, I am in class V, and I am writing a diary now. Really, today, I am residing in the Narendrapur Ramkrishna Mission hostel of Kolkata. My father Biren Banerjee decided to keep me in the hostel, for further studies. I cannot forget those tears in my mother’s eyes, when I left for this hostel, from our little village of Kultuli. My mother’s name is Mrinalini Banerjee.I still remember those days, when I started my first education in the village paathshaala, with a slate and a chalk in my hand. My elder sister Moni, used to take me there. There the master used to sleep and we used to utter those tables from 1 to 10. Then gradually, I went to the village school. I was so brilliant that, every time I used to come first in the class. All the villagers and teachers were so happy about me. They used to say that, this boy will one day become a good Doctor or an Engineer.

Page 2 of the Doctor’s Diary

I am writing this diary after 3 months. Today is 24th October 1989. Tomorrow is my Half Yearly Exam. I am feeling tensed. What will happen? In this institution, everyone is talented and intelligent. Can I secure the first position here also? After the exam, I will go to my Kultuli village for the Durga Puja vacation…Hurrah…everyone will be so happy to see me. I will again eat those lovely dishes cooked by my mother…and my elder sister will give me some good gifts during Bhaiya Dwuj…I am feeling very sleepy now. Already it is 1.30 AM. Tomorrow; I have to give the Bengali Exam. I don’t know what I will do in that exam.

****************************

Neela: - Oh, Dad, what are you reading now? It is a small diary…he he he …already it is 12.30 AM, dad, please go to sleep...Good night…

Arindam: - See, this man…he started writing a diary at class V only. His feelings are described here in this diary. Why don’t you also write a diary? The habit of Diary Writing is really good. It helps to know you.

Neela: - Uff…Sorry, I don’t love to write…I only love to do chatting with friends…Go to sleep papa, Good Night…

Page 3 of Doctor’s Diary

Today, I am in my village. Everyone has gone asleep, and I am now writing the diary. There is no electricity in our village, so I have to write the diary under this candle light only. Tomorrow, it is MahaSasthi, it is the 1st day of our Durga Puja festival. At this time, our village just looks awesome, full of white colored flowers (Kaash-phool) in the fields. There are paddies in the fields. The sky really looks fantastic with the white colored clouds, as if cotton wools are floating there in that lovely space. Tomorrow, I will wear the new clothes of Durga Puja. My dad has bought a new Shirt-Pant for me and my mother has given me a Kurta-Pyjama. I pray to God, that this time, please don’t spoil the durga puja, as already people are saying that this time Maa Durga is coming on boat, so there is a chance of heavy rainfall. I hope, there will be no rain, during the puja.

******************************************

Arindam: - Oh! Really, after reading the diary of Dr. Subhendu, I am becoming nostalgic. Really, I am missing my village life also, where we used to enjoy a lot.

Kavita: - Taai naaki…accha sonoh naah…I have never seen durga puja in villages. This time, in the durga puja, let us go to your Champahati village. We will enjoy the puja there.

Arindam: - Yes, nice idea, Kavita…surely we will go to our village. Really, I have not visited our village for 5 years. Surely, we will go there this time. Now, let me read the diary.

****************************************

Page 4 of Doctor’s Diary

I am writing the diary after nearly 7 months. Now, I am in class VI. Today, I have got selected in the football team of Narendrapur Ramkrishna Mission. Tomorrow, there is a match against the defending champions, Bijoygarh Boys School. Uff, I am just excited about that football match. Last time, they defeated us in the final match. That time, I just watched the match. I know how they play football. They go for man-to-man marking, and plays in the traditional formation of 5-3-2. But, their two strikers Santosh and Barun are really dangerous. They can convert any opportunity to score goals. I will play in Center Forward position; Mridul and Bubun will play in the left flank forward and right flank forward position respectively in our team. They are also good goal scorers. Tomorrow, we have to win the match, as it is a knock-out football tournament.

******************************************

Arindam: - Hmm…this Dr.Subhendu was not a regular diary writer. He only used to write, when there is some tension or excitement, or after getting overjoyed, due to some incidents. It is like, as if, he has captured the important snapshots of his life, in the form of a small diary.

Kavita: - at least, he has written about his important moments in this diary. But, today, hardly you will find people writing diaries. Ok, just stop reading diaries now. Today is Sunday; Neela was saying that, she wants to go for a movie today.

Arindam: - Ok, not a problem, we can surely go and watch a movie in the Ashoka Cinema Hall today.

Yes, today, we have won the match against the Bijoygarh football team. We have won by 1 goal only, and it was from a penalty. The credit should go to me. I was fouled when I was trying to fetch the ball; one of their defender just fouled me from behind and that too inside the penalty box. I am badly injured, and the doctor has told me that, I will be unable to play the other matches in this tournament. But, I have done the most important thing of this tournament. There are no other strong contenders for our football team, in this Knock-out tournament. So, I will regard today’s win as similar to winning the final match.

Page – 6 of Doctor’s Diary

Today, our Maharaj Krishnamohan took us to the school for blind people in Behala Chowrasta, for a social campaign, that is conducted every year, from our mission. Believe me, they are just amazing. They cannot see anything, but their smelling and hearing powers are just superb. In the darkness, they can feel the light of real humans. But how? How their sixth sense is stronger than us, who can see everything? I have made 2-3 friends there. They are also expert in studies. Their way of learning is unique. They learn and read everything, by touching the letters, in a special type of book. When I will die, I will surely donate my eyes to someone. I will be dead, but at least someone will see through my eyes. Probably, that will be a kind of value-addition of the re-usability of assets, that God has gifted me, during my birth.

*********************************************

Arindam: - Really, this Dr. Subhendu was a good man. He had a real good heart.

Kavita: - My dear hubby, you are still reading his school life in that diary. Everyone remains innocent and simple-hearted in their school life, but when they enter the college life and the professional life, the environment and the society starts changing them into culprits and politicians…so, don’t take a decision about his character so early…picture abhi bhi baaki hai…mere hubby…keep on reading…

Arindam: - accha, Neela bought one VCD naah, regarding a film, which was entirely based on two blind people. Amitabh Bacchan and Rani Mukherjee were there. I am yet to see that film…What is the name of that film?

Kavita: - oh, you are talking about the film “BLACK”. Ok, will you watch it now…I also have no work to do in this afternoon…Neela has come back from school…daarao…Neela, oh Neela…oi “BLACK” er VCD taa ekbaar chaliye de toh…amra dujoney dekhbo oi movie taah…

Neela: - thik achey ekhuni chaaliye dicchi…babah…tomaar phone esechey…ei ghorey ese phone taah dharo.

Arindam: - Hello, who is speaking?

Ramen: - This is Inspector Ramen speaking…Have you heard about the “100% Healthcare Nursing Home” at Ballygunge?

Arindam: - No, I have never heard about that nursing home. But, what happened?

Ramen: - We have got a document, where it is clearly stated that Roopali was 25% partner of that nursing home.

In class IX, today was my memorable day, we went for a picnic at Falta. It is a lovely place. We were having fun at the bank of the Hooghly River. We saw, many big ships which were coming from Haldia port and going towards the Khidderpore dock. This is my first picnic in this school. Actually, for last 2 years, I avoided the picnic, because I had a perception that picnic means wastage of money, too much journey, and students enjoying alcohols and cigarettes. But, this time, I felt that being in class IX, let me see, what fun is there? The picnic was just mind-blowing. We gave Rs. 100/- each for the picnic. In the picnic bus, we just kept on singing and shouting with joy. Our teachers also enjoyed with us. What a menu it was? We ate bread with butter, 2 bananas, and 1 egg per head in the bus only. It was the breakfast. Then, after we reached our picnic spot, there was a tea party. After that, we played cricket the whole day. At lunch, it was the chicken curry and rice. We enjoyed the whole day. I will never forget this day.

********************

Kavita: - Our sweet little girl Neela is angry on you.

Arindam: - Why? What happened?

Kavita: - This Sunday, their school authority has planned to conduct a picnic. So, she wants to enjoy the picnic. But you told her not to go in the picnic.

Arindam: - No, no, tell her to take Rs.200/- from my purse and let her enjoy the picnic.

Kavita: - My goodness, what happened suddenly…yesterday only, you were scolding her for not to go to the picnic, and now your decision swung by 180 degrees. I guess, there is something written in that diary, regarding any picnic tour…

Arindam: - Hmm…you women are always great at guessing…that is why, we the husbands always get caught…he he he … Ok, let me read the next page of the diary.

************************************************

Page- 8 of Doctor’s Diary

I am so happy today. In the Madhyamik Secondary Examination of 1995, I have secured the 5th position from West Bengal. All my village people are so happy. I will study class XI and XII from this Narendrapur School only. As I am the topper from this school, they gave me some good books as prizes. The books are on spirituality of Ramkrishna Paramhanshadev and Swami Vivekananda. They also gave one small shield to me. My parents are so happy, but there is one problem in my house, regarding my elder sister. She is now 19 years old, studying 1st year in the Diamond Harbour College. As usual, what happens in a village, everyone is concerned about her marriage? But, I know the exact scenario. My elder sister has a boyfriend. When she fell in love with that “Samiran”, she told me only about that, as I am not only her younger brother but also the best friend in this entire village. But, that boy belongs to a schedule-caste family, and we are a Brahmin family. No one will accept “Samiran Mondal” as the husband of my elder sister “Moni Banerjee”.

***********************************************

Arindam: - Uff, this caste system! Really, I don’t know when this caste system can be banned in India?

________________________________________________________

Part – 08

Page – 9 of Doctor’s Diary

Yesterday, my elder sister left the house. I also don’t know where she is now. The village people are now saying that the character of the girl was not good, otherwise, why should she will go and live with her boyfriend. Some said, it was their bad luck, as there was the caste-system in between their love. My father is a strong man; he has already declared that her daughter has died. He told the villagers to assume that her daughter has died in an accident. After all, he is a father, there has to be something to console his wounded heart. If he loved his daughter so much, then why did he gave priority to all those false prestige and dignity of Brahmins over the scheduled-castes, and that too in this modern era, when man has landed on the moon also. I saw my mother weeping, while cooking in the kitchen, but she is just a home-maker, with no power to protest against the village society. I, as a younger brother of my sweet sister Moni, only prayed to God that let her be happy, wherever she is with her beloved partner.

**********************************************

Arindam: - accha Kavita, are you sure that, our daughter Neela is not having any boyfriend?

Kavita: - What? She is just studying in school…Why are you so bothered about her boyfriend?

Arindam: - No, I just want to say that, if she has also, don’t scold her, otherwise, she will leave the house, with her boyfriend, like the elder sister of Dr. Subhendu.

Kavita: - Uff, I am fed up with you and with your Dr. Subhendu in that Doctor’s Diary. Ei, Neela, see, what your dad is saying?

Neela: - Dad, I am your daughter, don’t you worry? When I will fall in love with someone, I will tell about that to you only. Just keep on reading that diary. Don’t be tensed and stop asking silly questions.

Arindam: - He he he …Ok, Neela madam…thanks for your kind replies…your friend Sheetal has come to play badminton with you. Go and play with her. Let me read this diary…

*****************************************************

Page – 10 of Doctor’s Diary

Nearly after 2 years, I am writing this diary, because I am so happy today. Today, the medical counseling session ended, for the meritorious students, who secured rank 1 to 50 in the medical Joint Entrance. I got the chance to study in Neel Ratan Sarkar (NRS) Medical College. At last, I am going to fulfill the dream of my village people. I am going to become a doctor after 5 years, and I will do the treatment of the poor people of my village. I don’t know, where my elder sister is, but surely she will also be happy, by hearing that. People say that, there is a huge difference between the school life and the college life. Let me see, what is the difference? I will meet new people, new friends there. In that college, I will have no friends from my Narendrapur School, as all of them cracked the IIT, JEE or BIT exams to study engineering. Only, I am the person, who is going to study medical science.

******************************************************

Arindam: - Medical Science is really a boring subject. There is no fun in that subject. What do you say to it?

Kavita: - No pain, no gain. That is why, by studying a boring subject, he was a doctor and you are a CID officer, by studying physics pass course.

Page – 11 of Doctor’s Diary

The first day in the NRS Medical College, was the day of harassment and ragging. My goodness, I never dreamt of such kind of things. When I entered the college premises, for enrolling procedure, I saw there are two parties standing. They are the college unions. If you have to study in this college, you have to be associated with either of the parties. I am very smart. To avoid any kind of confusion, I enrolled in both the parties. The union drama, I have avoided, but the next step was the ragging procedure. They told me to open my shirt, in front of the senior college girls. I was a very shy kind of a person. But still I did that. They told me to do sit-ups, while holding my ears, in front of everyone. I literally cried. Nobody, in my village also, did this to me. But, because I was cool and calm, they did not beat me. There were boys, who became aggressive and ferocious; the senior college students gave them some real treatment. Thank God, at least, I am not having any bandages and stitches in my body. Now, I understand, what is college life? It is the student life full of internal politics and kicking each other at their back, to get success.

****************************************************

Arindam: - Ha ha ha ….he he he …

Kavita: - Ei, what happened? Now, it is 12.30 AM, everyone is sleeping, and you are reading that diary and laughing…Are you mad, or what?

Arindam: - How can I stop laughing? Dr. Subhendu was ragged in the college, on his first day.

Kavita: - What is so funny about it? Everyone gets ragged on the first day in the college. Were you not ragged?

Arindam: - No, our batch was something different. We were not ragged but always suspended.

Kavita: - What do you mean by that?

Arindam: - The Physics Department of our batch was full of hooligans at Ashutosh College. Some senior students tried to rag us; we gave them the treatment with cycle chains and hockey sticks, in front of the women college, which is at the back of our college. Senior students complained about us. We were suspended for 2 weeks. Next year, we ragged the junior students, one of our batch mates, told some abusive language to a junior girl, who was the daughter of a local MLA. Again, the entire batch was suspended for 1 month.

Kavita: - Cheee chee chee…I have married to a hooligan. You could have told me these things, before our marriage, I would have never married you.

Arindam: - accha, toh yeah baath hai…please go to sleep, as early as possible, otherwise I will suspend you from the post of my wife.

Kavita: - Really, if someone would have made you the Dean of any college, then students would have died, due to ragging.

Arindam: - No, no, dear, nowadays, Government is taking strict actions against ragging.

Kavita: - Ya, ya, that is why, students are dying here and there. Recently, have you not heard the Guntur college ragging case?

Arindam: - Ya, I agree with you, violent ragging should be banned in India. Play the game of MTV Bakra with new students, that are quite acceptable, but beating them up violently, injuring or killing them, is a sin in India.

Page – 12 of Doctor’s Diary

I am feeling emotionally disturbed today. In the morning, I received a letter from my mother, where it was written that my favorite pet dog “Moti” has died. He was only a dog by birth, but his attitude was more of a friend. I remember, when the first time, my elder sister Moni brought the little Moti to our house. Then, I was in Class VII. He was a black colored native Indian dog, with a white colored round spot on his forehead. You don’t need to tell Moti, about your emotion. Whenever, my mom used to scold or beat me, I used to go and sit at the bank of the pond, as a loner. But, Moti used to come there and sit beside me, and used to bark twice or thrice, as if he used to say, don’t be so emotional, my friend; because my mother also used to scold me. Moti was expert in understanding our human language. My didi only used to say him, “Today, Subhendu will be coming home, from his college”. After hearing this, Moti will wait for me, in the bus stand with his female partner dog Champa. The moment, I used to come down from the State Bus, Moti starts barking and jumping, and will request me to buy some special biscuits from Hari dada’s Tea shop. He loved to eat those biscuits. Sometimes, I wonder, how God have created a dog, who always loves his master. HMV and McDonald logos are the real proofs of that. Whenever I used to board the bus for going back to Narendrapur, Moti used to run after the bus for at least 15 minutes. Then, he used to realize with the moist eyes full of tears, that his master is going to somewhere else. There he stopped his running, and just used to stare at the bus, till it goes out of sight. My didi will cry, if she hears about the death of Moti. Anyway, that is life; everyone has to die one day. Let me go to sleep now.

************************************************

Arindam: - This Dr. Subhendu was a very sensitive fellow. He observed an animal so minutely. My goodness, today in this fast-track life, we don’t get time to stand in front of the mirror and observe ourselves; and look at this doctor. It really sounds very funny.

Neela: - Papa, there is nothing funny in it. It is India, which is why; people regard other animals as funny. Look at the foreigners; they really care for any kind of animals. Dad, if you get time, just watch Discovery Channel, National Geographic or Animal Planet once, you will get to know that other animals cannot read, write and talk like us, but they have brains to understand the basics of life. Humans know money, profession, politics, science and technology, but, for the sake of attaining more power, they forget the basic essence of life.

Arindam: - Kavita, I am just clean bowled by our daughter. Are you sure that she is only 14 years old.

Kavita: - to know the basic theory of life, age is not a factor.

Neela: - Dad, I want a pet dog in this house. I am requesting you for that for 2 years, but you are showing negative attitude towards it.

Arindam: - Ok, Neela, this time, your request has been approved. But, the name of the dog will be “Moti”.

Neela: - Hurrah!, Dad, you are the best.

Arindam: - Yes, of course, I am. There is no doubt about that.

Kavita: - But, your team “Kolkata Knight Riders” is the worst team of IPL T-20 League. Again, they have lost the match today, against the Bangalore Team.

Arindam: - Uff, Kavita, you are still having so much patience to watch their match. Let me read the Diary again.

Kavita: - Ha ha ha, you seem to be very angry on this team like any other Kolkatans. Ok, carry on reading that diary.

I am now repenting for what has happened today morning, while I was about to enter the college. Actually, it was not her fault also. The auto-rickshaw driver was driving in such a fashion, that she was bound to jump on the footpath, to prevent an accident. I was walking on the pavement only. She collided with me. I was holding the Admit Card in my hand. It fell down in the drain water of the street. I took it up, but then I literally scolded or blasted that girl, because I was angry. After all, that was my Admit Card, and I was going to sit for an exam. It is not that, she has not told me sorry; but still I became hyper, and told her some harsh words in front of the public. That girl said nothing to me, just stared at me. I started walking towards Room No. 342, to give the exam. Later I found out that, she is from our batch only, but of different section. But, if I have scolded her, for that collision, then why am I repenting now? Is it because, she is really beautiful with her dreamy eyes, long hair and the sky-colored salwar-kameez. Let her come tomorrow to the college, I will seek an apology to her.

***************************************************

Arindam: - I think that Dr. Subhendu has got his girlfriend.

Kavita: - Wow, this diary also contains the love story. From now on, please read the diary loudly, so that I can also enjoy the story.

Arindam: -Ok, let me read the next page.

****************************************************

Page 14 of Doctor’s Diary

All happened automatically. Last night, I was unable to sleep, as I was thinking of different strategies to approach her. But, today, when I went to the college, I saw her entering the Room No. 343. Today, she was wearing a light yellow colored salwar-kameez, with a small black bindiya on her forehead. She did not notice me. But, I noticed her, as the question paper was very tough. Hardly, we were able to answer 4 out of the 25 questions. My seat was just beside the 2nd door of Room No. 342, from where I can clearly see that girl sitting on the first bench of the Room No. 343. She was giving the exam of a different paper. Maybe, that question paper was very easy. That is why; she was busy in writing the answers. After the exam, I came out of the college gate and saw that girl standing in the bus stand. I was just staring at her. She smiled and asked me, “Hi, how was your exam?” Believe me, I felt as if the bloods in my vein are running with the speed of a bullet train. I opened my mouth as a bangaali addabaaz, and then within 10 minutes, I realized that, we have become friends, while talking with each other in the bus stand. Her name is Roopali Goswami.

*****************************************************

Kavita: - Ha ha ha ….uff…the poor Dr. Subhendu.

Arindam: - Ei, what is there to laugh, in this regard.

Kavita: - I am damn sure that, if Roopali would have not asked that question, Dr. Subhendu would have taken a week to start talking with her. But, at least, character wise, Dr. Subhendu was very sober in nature. At least, he was not like you. The first day, when we became friends in the college, you started asking the questions, do you have a boyfriend? How can you such sweet girl be still single? Blah blah blah…really, you were such a disgusting nut. Later on, I don’t know how, I have automatically fallen in love with you; maybe, due to your simplicity.

Page 15 of Doctor’s Diary

Today was one of the finest moments in my life. Our friendship got transformed into a love relationship. But, in such a funny way; that I am still laughing, while thinking about it. We went inside the Menoka cinema Hall to watch a Hollywood movie, after spending some time in the lake area of Tollygunge. I was not fond of Hollywood films, it was due to her request that I went to watch that film. As usual, the English film was too much romantic. Intentionally, I booked the seats of last row. In that row, there was no one, except us. Both of us stared at each other, but no one took the initiative. I lost my patience, when the film is about to end, hardly, 5 minutes before the film ends, I touched her right hand, baapre; it was so cold, maybe, due to the A/C machine. What a shy smile she gave? Then she started boasting me, as I was late in my approach. See the fun, it is we, who will always initiate the process, and will be criticized. I also took the revenge. When she told me, “I love you”, then I scolded her also. I gave her lectures that, “if you are in true love, then you don’t need to utter those three words. Are you doing acting with me?” Baash, then we both started fighting again, while sitting in front of the lake.

***********************************************************

Arindam: -He he he …very funny…he he he…

Kavita: - At least not like ours. You asked me straight away, “Hey, Kavita, do you love me?

Arindam: -Yes, that was a blunder. As I have told you that I am in love with you, so you started showing attitude at me. You said, “How can you think, that I will fall in love with you? Have you looked your face in the mirror?”

Kavita: -And you took that joke seriously. You stopped talking with me, and started flirting with Pallavi, considering the fact that grapes are sour.

Arindam: - hee hee hee…but after few days, you accepted me, and proved that grapes are also sweet...he he…

Page 16 of Doctor’s Diary

Days passed by. Our relation was getting stronger day by day. We have reached the last year of our medical studies. After passing out from this college, we don’t know where we will be doing our job as a doctor. Before something happens, one day, Mr. Bikramjit Goswami, the father of Roopali, called me to his house. I have not visited Roopali’s house before. I was unaware that, she belongs to a rich businessman’s family. She never let me know about that. Anyway, I went inside that house, but came out with some kind of humiliation. Her father wants me to remain as Ghar-Jamai. Not only have that, he will be sponsoring money to set-up a Nursing home, where I and Roopali will be the joint business partners. He does not want me to work as a doctor in any government hospital. If I agree to his proposal, then and then only, I can marry to her daughter, otherwise, I have to forget Roopali for the lifetime. I really don’t know what to do, in this situation. On one side, it is my true love towards her, on the other side it is my self-respect, prestige and dignity as a doctor.

*********************************************************

Kavita: - Where is the problem? Dr. Subhendu is a lucky guy, to get such a support. He will be having his own nursing home; his life will become a paradise. He will not lose his beloved Roopali also.

Arindam: - He is a doctor, not a beggar. He has his own self-respect like others. Always remember that, Mr. Bikramjit is a businessman. He will also earn money from that nursing home by using his Ghar-Jamai.

_________________________________________________________

Part – 13

Page 17 of Doctor’s Diary

After hearing about Roopali, my parents were very happy. Actually, my parents have no such problem. They just want me to be happy, no matter to whom I get married. But, I have not told them about Bikramjit and his demand. Let me try out for the last time with Roopali. If she agrees to marry me, without the “Ghar-Jamai” agreement, then only I will marry her, otherwise, I will break-off from this relationship. I will wait for her in front of the Registry marriage office near Kalighat Mandir. If she comes there, I will marry her. Let me see, what is going to happen? This is the last page of my small diary. I need to buy another diary to start writing there.

*********************************************************

Kavita: -When you searched Dr.Subhendu’s house, you got this diary only? Then, where are the other diaries?

Arindam: -Yes, we only got a diary and the photo album. Oh! I forgot about that photo album. Let me have a look at it.

Kavita: -This photo album contains the snaps of their social marriage, in the Kultuli village. Look, this is Dr. Subhendu’s parents. Roopali is looking beautiful here in this album pictures.

Arindam: - This photo album is hardly of any use, for solving this case. I need to search for the other diaries.

*******************************************************

Preetha: -We are not getting any interest in attending classes, after the death of Dr. Subhendu.

Bumba: -Yes, you are right. Actually, he was the youngest doctor cum a good teacher of this NRS Medical College. How a doctor can murder another doctor, I really wonder. Her wife Roopali is also a doctor. She has her own Nursing Home at Subhashnagar colony only, where she used to stay with Dr.Subhendu.

Preetha: -Maybe, there were some ego clashes between them, which resulted in murder.

Bumba: - How can we say that? CID is investigating on this matter. Let them solve the case.

******************************************************

Ramen: -I can understand what you are trying to say. But, after hearing this shocking news about her daughter, Mr. Bikramjit suffered a major heart attack. Doctor has strictly prescribed him to take rest for 2 weeks, and warned the police department that no interrogation can be done within this period.

Arindam: -Hmm… ok, we will do that after 2 weeks only. But, where is Roopali? Any trace about her hideouts?

Ramen: - On that night only, she fled with another person. We interrogated the taxi driver, who dropped them at the Howrah station. We have also made a sketch of that person.

Arindam: - Can I see that?

Ramen: -Oh! Sure, why not? Here it is. You can keep this copy with you.

Arindam: -My goodness, I have seen the picture of this man in the photo album of Dr. Subhendu’s marriage party. He was dancing with his friends. But, who is this guy? Why Roopali fled with him? Inspector Ramen, please do one thing. Start interrogating the NRS Medical College students and regular patients of Dr. Subhendu.

Part - 14

Mrinalini: - Who are you to ask questions about our son? We have never seen you in this Kultuli village before.

Arindam: - I am the CID officer Arindam and this is my ID Card. I have come here to ask some questions about your son Dr. Subhendu.

Biren: -Please get out of here. Get out. My son is dead. He is no more in this world, but still you people have no courtesy to let his soul remain in peace.

Arindam: -Mr. Biren, the soul of Dr.Subhendu will be in peace, only when I can put his murderer behind the bars.

Mrinalini: -It has been already published in the Anandabazar Patrika that my daughter-in-law has murdered him. Don’t you read newspapers?

Arindam: -Ok, fine, let me assume that, Roopali has murdered Dr.Subhendu, and then the big question is why she will do that? I hope as the parents of the victim, you people know something about it.

Biren: -That nursing home was the main cause for it.

Arindam: -Ok, you mean to say, that after marriage, Bikramjit sponsored for that nursing home and both husband and wife are the partners of that.

Mrinalini: -No, you are wrong. Roopali and my son performed a secret registry marriage. Both of us and her childhood locality friend Pinaki were the witness of their marriage.

Biren: -Later, Bikramjit accepted everything. He told that he was testing our son, whether he is fit for his daughter or not. The demand for making him a Ghar-Jamai was just a drama.

Arindam: -Then, who sponsored for the Nursing home?

Mrinalini: -It was Pinaki, who passed out MBBS from a Russian Institute, sponsored for the Nursing home. But, as a friend, he kept Roopali as the 25% partner of that nursing home. Pinaki was 3 years senior to Roopali, but they were very good friends.

Arindam: -Very good friends! Yes, indeed they were, I must appreciate that. But, what was the tension regarding that nursing home?

Biren: -We are not aware of that, but we are very much sure, there was something fishy in that nursing home.

Arindam: -Ok, thanks a lot, for helping me. Don’t worry; the criminal will get the punishment.

Mrinalini: -Can you return my son back from heaven? We don’t bother, whether you punish the criminal or not. We know what we have lost.

*****************************************************

Bikramjit: -Yes, Inspector Ramen, you can come in. I have recovered from heart attack now. Come in.

Ramen: -Thank you, Sir. This is Arindam, who is investigating this case. He wants to ask some questions.

Bikramjit: -Yes, Mr. Arindam, tell me, what do you want to know, regarding this shameful case. Before that, tell me, what information have you gathered till now about Dr. Subhendu and my daughter Roopali.

_____________________________________________________________

Part – 15

Arindam: -Whatever information, which I came to know, it is from Dr. Subhendu’s diary only. But, tell me one thing; suddenly, why you changed your mind? Earlier, you were forcing Dr. Subhendu for partnership of the nursing home and to make him a Ghar Jamai?

Bikramjit: -Roopali was just 6 years, when she lost her mother. You can easily understand, in my life, there is no one, except my daughter. Maybe, that is why, I was looking for a guy, who will live in my house only; as my son-in-law and look after my business. But, I forgot that, it is her life, it is she, who will decide her personal fate. It is all destiny and the God’s game. You cannot deny that.

Arindam: -Ya, I can understand your feelings. Tell me one thing? What issue was there in that nursing home?

Bikramjit: -Who is the investigator, is it you or me? If I would have known that, then I would have easily told everything to Inspector Ramen only. Mr. Ramen, have I not told you everything, whatever information I had?

Ramen: -Actually, Mr. Bikramjit, we are little bit confused. In our police file, there is not a single FIR lodged against that nursing home. Suddenly, after the death of Dr. Subhendu; both Roopali and Pinaki fled from Kolkata. That nursing home is now closed. Already, on the other hand, Dr.Subhendu’s parents are of the opinion that there was something fishy in that nursing home.

Arindam: -Anyway, Mr. Bikramjit, you do not need to take headache of those issues. We will take care of that. Do you have any diaries written by Dr. Subhendu?

Bikramjit: -Mr. Arindam, your eyes are very sharp, I must appreciate. When you entered the room, I was noticing you. You were staring at that small blue covered diary in my bookcase. At that point, I understood that, you have already completed reading the 1st diary of my son-in-law. That is why; I asked you that how much information you have gathered till now. Subhendu always used to write in those small blue diaries. You can take that diary.

Arindam: -Thanks a lot, Mr. Bikramjit. It was nice talking to you. I hope that you will co-operate with us, whenever we will need some information.

Bikramjit: -Sure, sure, why not? You are always welcome.

*********************************************************

Arindam: -Inspector Ramen, have you interrogated any of the students of NRS?

Ramen: -No, actually, they are having exams now. So, we have not disturbed them. After two days, their exam will be over. Then, we can interrogate. We have traced two close and best students of Dr.Subhendu. They are Preetha and Bumba.

Arindam: - Ok, not a problem. Within 2 days, I will go through this second diary, to reveal more information.

*********************************************************

Kavita: - Oh! You have come. I know that the entire day was really hectic for you. Have you got any new clue regarding this investigation?

Arindam: -No, my sweetheart. This case is getting complicated like a spider-web. At least, I have got the second diary. Ei, I am feeling very hungry and sleepy. Jaldi se khaana lagaa doh…

Page 18 of Doctor’s Diary

It was a tensed moment for me, as I was waiting for her in front of the marriage registry office. I felt, how much I love her. What if she does not come here? I am such a tough person; I know I will never change my decision. Thank God; at least she came with two of her friends, who will act as witnesses of our marriage. After completing the signatures, she gave a lovely sweet smile. But, I was unable to make out, what was the significance of that smile. We then went to the Millennium Park, where we sat on the bench for how many hours, I don’t remember. She leaned her head on my arms, and was singing on her own, while staring at the Hooghly River. Then, suddenly, she stopped singing and became serious and asked me, where we are going to stay from now on. Roopali was not aware of the surprise, which I have planned for her. I told her to go back to her home today. On the coming Saturday, we will surely stay at a nice apartment.

*********************************************************

Kavita: -Dr. Subhendu’s diary is really very interesting. What are you thinking now? Please read the next page.

Arindam: -Who were those two friends of Roopali, who came there as witnesses?

********************************************************

Page 19 of Doctor’s Diary

Masood is my college mate. He told me that his uncle Rashid has recently constructed an apartment in Subhashnagar colony. He was looking for customers. So, Masood suggested me about that apartment. I went to see that apartment. In the 3rd floor, one flat is still vacant. Not bad at all. The flat has one bedroom, one kitchen, one dining room with two attached bathrooms and also a small balcony. As I am Masood’s friend, so Rashid miyaan offered me that flat only at 7000 bucks as rental per month. That is quite feasible for me. Already, I am earning money from the hospital as a doctor cum lecturer. Roopali also sits in the outdoor chambers of Calcutta Medical hospital as an assistant of Dr. Malabika, 3 days a week. So, she is also earning some money. It was quite ok. Today, Roopali was so happy after seeing that flat. She has already planned how to beautify that flat. She has given me a list of things which are to be bought. Now, I am feeling that, I have become a husband. Tomorrow is Sunday; I will take her to our village.

**************************************************************

Arindam: -This is the real problem. You people always give orders to your husbands, uuh…

Kavita: -Very funny. Every wife does that…uuh…

**************************************************************

Page 20 of Doctor’s Diary

Today, Roopali gave me very good news. Yesterday night only, she has told everything to her father about our registry marriage. I think some kind of emotional drama must have happened between the father and the daughter. Those details, Roopali has not told me, but the good news is that Mr.Bikramjit has accepted our love relationship, and he wants to arrange a social marriage for us. After hearing this, I gave a second thought of going to village now. It is better to go there after performing the social marriage. I have already informed my parents about our marriage. They will be coming here day after tomorrow. Out social marriage will be on next Monday. I will be very busy this week for inviting all my friends, relatives and others.

_______________________________________________________________

Part – 17

Page 21 of Doctor’s Diary

Oh! What a week it was for me and Roopali. The marriage party was just superb. Mr. Bikramjit really spend good amount of money for her daughter’s marriage. From there, we went to Kultuli village. There the village grandmothers, grandfathers, boudis and others were flocking in our house to see the face of my wife. Everyone was saying, “koi dekhi dekhi…amader bouma kamon dekhte hoyeche…o maa, ki sundar chaander maton dekhte go...” I was just enjoying the entire scenario. Later in the night, Roopali told me that, she has never thought that there is so much hype among the villagers to see a new bride. These things do not happen in cities. It is the village culture. Roopali is tired after showing her face to everyone. Now, she wants to go for a honeymoon. I was also thinking for honeymoon in Digha or maybe in Puri or Darjeeling. But, Roopali prefers sea beaches. So, Digha is our honeymoon spot.

**************************************************************

Arindam: -Hmm…everything is ok, so far…

Kavita: -I also requested you that time to go to Goa for honeymoon, but you took me to Simla….uuh…

Arindam: -Goa is a very costly place and side-by-side, that place is a good place for bachelors not for married couples. And you must accept the fact that, scientifically, chilled cold weather of hilly areas is best for honeymoon… he he he …

Kavita: -Uff, really, you are something. At this age also, you have not changed. Stop all this nonsense, and keep reading that diary.

*************************************************************

Page 22 of Doctor’s Diary

In Digha, we enjoyed a lot. Roopali was just acting like a little naughty girl. She was splashing the sea waters at me, running here and there, laughing, giggling, collecting those jhinuks, baapre baap, I never seen this naughty nature in my four years of relationship with her. Actually it was my fault also. I forced her to drink three large pegs of White Mischief vodka with Sprite mixed with it. For the first time, she drank vodka, and started doing all those mischief, that a woman desires to do in any honeymoon. I was just looking at the picture album of our Digha tour and laughing at it. Pinaki called Roopali 20 minutes back stating that already all the legal formalities of that nursing home has been done. He has invited both of us to attend the inauguration party. Our State Health Minister Mr. Indranil will do the inauguration of that nursing home. Pinaki do not have so much power to invite the health minister. Health minister will come there, as Bikramjit has requested him to come. After all, my father-in-law is one of the reputed businessmen of West Bengal.

***************************************************************

Arindam: - Mr. Bikramjit never told me that, he has good connections with the health minister.

Kavita: -You always have a suspicious mind in almost everything. Accha, what is the name of that nursing home?

Arindam: - The name of the nursing home is “100% HealthCare” Nursing home. I think that in the next few pages, I can have a rough idea about that nursing home.

____________________________________________________________

Part – 18

Page 23 of Doctor’s Diary

The Health minister is a very jolly kind of a person. In the party today, after shaking hands with me, he joked with me by saying that he never expected a doctor to become the son-in-law of a businessman like Bikramjit. As a minister, he has a good heart too. When I asked him about the health related conditions across the West Bengal, he agreed that, still the health infrastructure and facilities are not up to the mark for the people of rural areas. Also, there are some kind of superstitions exists, which ultimately hampers the patients. We literally became friends. He is not so old. Hardly will he be eleven years older to me. Credit must go to Pinaki also, for his nursing home. As he has done his studies from Russia, he is well aware of the updated medical technologies and machines. Really, after seeing this nursing home, I am feeling proud that at least my wife Roopali is 25% partner of this nursing home.

**********************************************************

Kavita: -baah…this is really good. Dr. Subhendu made friendship with that minister.

Arindam: - Who knows, maybe, this friendship with the health minister has proved costly for him in the future and maybe that is the reason why Mr. Indranil demanded a CBI probe in this case. Ei, our telephone is ringing in that room. Please take the call.

Kavita: - Don’t worry; Neela is there. Neela, kaar phone re?

Neela: - Dad, it is your call.

Arindam: -Hello! Arrey…kaise ho bhaya…Inspector Yasodhar Rane…from where are you calling me now?

Rane: -Arindam, I am calling from Malad area in the outskirts of Mumbai. We have found a dead body in an apartment here. We have found a card from her purse.

****************************************************************

Mr.Sansani:- Hello viewers, you are watching the show “Sansani”. Today, in an apartment of Malad, Maharashtra Police have found the dead body of Mrs. Roopali Banerjee, the lady who murdered her husband last month only in her apartment of Kolkata. The dead body has been sent for post-mortem. After the post-mortem report, it will be clear whether she has committed suicide or have been murdered.

**************************************************************

Ramen: - Hello, Inspector Rane, have you received the post-mortem report?

Rane: -It is a cold-blooded murder. It appears to be a suicide, but the finger prints on her neck, the nylon wires reveals that it is a murder. We have also got a suicide letter from the spot, where it is written that she has murdered her husband and now she is repenting for that. So, she has decided to commit suicide. No one is responsible for her death.

************************************************************

Arindam: -Please control yourself, Mr. Bikramjit. No one can do anything in this situation. If you don’t mind, for our investigation purpose, I am taking this college note-book written by Roopali. Please take care, Good night.

Part 24 of Doctor’s Diary

My parents are very happy and proud about their daughter-in-law. Really, I am also satisfied with Roopali, as my wife. After all; everyone wants a wife who will be caring and loving towards his parents. I saw the bright smile on my mother’s face, as if she has got another daughter in the form of her daughter-in-law. I can feel the pain she experienced when my elder sister left this home. Roopali is really a changed person. Maybe, she is transforming from a girlfriend to a lovely wife. She is expert in balancing her personal and professional life. People of this locality have a good feedback regarding their nursing home also. I am also enjoying my work at the hospital as well as taking good interactive classes. Actually, I have started loving teaching. It is not that, as a teacher you will only teach your students, sometimes, you also learn something from them, when it comes to some latest information on what is happening around the world. One of my students also suggested me to buy a laptop and the Internet connection. I was unaware of the fact that, there is already a software program in the market, which has the list of all medicines along with the respective symptoms, where that medicine can be used. But, a warning is also provided in that software program that before using this medicine, please consult a doctor. After all; doctors are doctors, a computer or a software program cannot become a doctor.

*****************************************************************

Arindam: -My goodness, IT has also entered into the medical arena. Are we heading for a future society, where if we will fell sick, we will just open the computer and search for the medicine for that particular symptom and then buy that medicine from the medical shop?

Neela: -but dad, here the theory of “No risk no gain” does not work. Here you will die at your own risk. After your death, no one will blame the doctor. They will say that this man has literally committed a suicide, abiding by that medical software.

Kavita: -Ha ha ha … I think Neela is right. So, my dear hubby, whenever you will fell ill; do not try to save your money. Always visit a doctor, rather than consulting that medical software program.Arindam: -Ok, babah, I will consult a doctor. Now, let me read the next page.

**********************************************************

Part 25 of Doctor’s Diary

Someone pinched my wife that you are a reputed doctor of this nursing home, so you should have some social prestige or status. As a result, Roopali is requesting me to buy a private car. But, I don’t know how to drive a car. Roopali knows driving. But, once she did a major accident in Eastern Bypass, while driving her father’s Opel Astra. After that incident, Mr. Bikramjit scolded her in such a fashion that she never dared to drive any car. Now, if you keep a driver, there is an additional expense. Roopali was saying that Bikramjit’s driver will do the part-time job here also. Then it is ok. But, I can only afford to buy a Maruti 800. I know one person, who can provide that car, only for a payment of Rs. 2,999/- per month. Roopali has agreed to that. After all Maruti 800 is not bad for a middle-class family of Kolkata. I am also planning to buy a laptop and then I will apply for a BSNL broadband connection. But, this week, I will be very busy. Tomorrow, I have to visit a medical camp in Midnapore, where Health Department has decided to give free treatment to local villagers, as Cholera and Diarrhea is increasing day by day in that area, after the severe floods. I am thinking of taking some of my best students to help me out in that camp.

_________________________________________________________________

Part – 20

Part 26 of Doctor’s Diary

For two days, I was literally very busy with the camp. Really, the condition in this area is very bad. But still, we have done our best. I am now staying at the medical sub-center of this village. Here, there is no electricity at all. For two days, I cannot call Roopali also, as there is no Reliance Network here. Only BSNL has the network coverage. There is one STD booth, but that too at a distance of 3 Km from this village. I hardly got the time to go there and call my wife. Anyway, tomorrow, I will try to go there and call her. The way, my students helped me out in this camp, really, I am impressed. At least, I felt that, I am not a bad professor. I have been able to share my medical knowledge to them very efficiently. If I look out of the window, it is darkness everywhere with the mourning sound. Today only, seven people have died. For past two weeks, they were literally fighting against those diseases. Poor villagers were just staring at me, as if I can cure any kind of disease. But, today, I felt that I am only a doctor not a God. If the disease is in its critical phase, then at that point no medicine will work for you. Once, one patient of mine, who was an Anti-CPI (M) supporter, told me that for 30 years, what have ruined in West Bengal are the Health Ministry and the Education system. Today, I felt that it is true. Hardly people get good treatment in the Government hospital that is just 2 Km away from this flood-hit villages.

************************************************************

Kavita: -This is true. The Government hospitals of West Bengal are deteriorating day-by-day. You take the example of PG hospital only. A patient is really ill-treated there and the doctors and nurses shows such kind of attitude to the patients, as if the patients have committed a sin, by admitting themselves to that hospital. Government should take strict measures to improve the Health Department of West Bengal.

Arindam: -A government which is ruling for thirty years will never pay attention to these issues, unless their competitor parties are very strong in their protests. Anyway, let the government do their job. A person, who has sufficient money and good medical insurance covers never knocks the door of a Government hospital, when any of his family members fall ill. Government also knows that. So, they pay callous attitude towards the poor patients. After all, medical treatment is also a business for the CPI (M) party.

**********************************************************

Page 27 of Doctor’s Diary

After coming back from the camp, I am suffering from fever now. At least I am lucky; my wife is also a doctor. She is taking care of me. My sweet lady doctor has prescribed me to take rest for at least two days. It is just a viral fever. Yesterday, my students also came to meet me at my house. Actually, I am the youngest teacher of the medical college. So, hardly they are all three to four years younger to me. That is why; I am a professor cum friend for them. Tomorrow, Maruti 800 will be delivered at my doorstep. Also, one of my bright students will buy the laptop on my behalf. I have full faith in him, as he knows better IT related things than me. Pinaki has referred my name to a medical representative. He just called me on my mobile phone requesting for an appointment with me. These medical representatives are like sales person of different medicines. They will provide me some commission and I have to refer their medicines to the patients. Sometimes, I wonder that I am a doctor or a broker of Pharmaceutical companies. Anyway, if you are earning money, only by referring some medicines, then there can be no other simpler means of earning money for a doctor. Anyway, Roopali is shouting at me to go to sleep. She does not like that, I am writing diary, while I am suffering from viral fever. After all, she is not only a doctor, but a wife too. So, shouting at her husband is her moral duty also. Ha ha ha …

It took nearly two weeks for me to learn driving a car. Now, I can drive the car very confidently. So, I have decided that we will go for a long drive to our village. But, every time, I will not drive the car. No matter how much you are expert in driving, every time, you will not be in a mood to drive your car. That time, a part-time driver as your back-up proves handy for you. Laptop of the Dell Company is really good. It has lots of features in it. Now, Roopali has another request. She wants a maid-servant who will stay at our house and look after cooking, washing dishes, clothes and other works. Roopali is facing some pressure nowadays in dealing with so many patients at her nursing home. I have talked with my neighbors. They have referred the name of a little girl Pratima, who works in many houses as a maid-servant. Shailesh is again disturbing me like anything. I understand that he is the common friend of my wife and Pinaki, but that does not mean that I have to refer the medicines that he wants to sell as a medical representative. I don’t have enough faith in the medicines of that company. Today, again, he will be coming to meet me.

**************************************************************

Ramen: -Hello. Oh! Yes, tell me.

Arindam: -I want details about Shailesh and Pratima, as early as possible. Also check, whether this Shailesh is having any records in Police file or not. He is a medical representative.

Ramen: -Ok, that I will do. Accha, I have asked Preetha and Bumba to come to the Police Station today at 7 PM. So, can you please come down and interrogate them.

Arindam: - Yes, of course, I will be there on time.

**************************************************************

Page 29 of Doctor’s Diary

What a durga puja it is, indeed? It was just different for me. When I drove the car through my village streets, I was feeling something special. At one time, we just used to run on these streets bare-footed and now I am driving the Maruti 800 on it. Today, it was the day of Durga Puja, when every wife plays with vermillion. In Bengali, it is known as “Sindur Khela”. Roopali enjoyed it, after all this is the first time she is playing it. But, someone rightly said that Doctor’s have no personal life at all. Roopali got a call from Pinaki that, there is an emergency case. Not only have that, at 2.45 AM, I got a call also about one of my critical patient. We again started off for Kolkata around 3.30 AM. After all, we are doctors, patients are like Gods for us, and as Ramkrishna Paramhanshadev have rightly said that the person who loves and takes care of another human, is indirectly serving the God only. Maybe, these are just a consolation words for a busy doctor, but still it’s a duty.

*************************************************************

Arindam: -Very Strange! The second diary of Dr. Subhendu has ended here only. Where are the other diaries?

Kavita: -How will I know? Again you have to investigate and find out where is it? Neela, why are you laughing?

Neela: -He he he …really, I liked reading this story “Universal War” which is posted in Mr. Sain’s personal blog site.

Arindam: -Oh! Yes, I forgot that Dr. Subhendu bought a laptop. But, where is that laptop, at present?

___________________________________________________________

Part – 22

Arindam: - Hi, I am Arindam, the CID Inspector. I hope that you people are already aware of the fact that, I am investigating the murder case of your favorite professor Dr. Subhendu.

Bumba: -Yes, Sir, we are already aware of it. Who is his murderer? Is it his wife only or someone else?

Arindam: -It is still not clear. We are still in a fog. But, we can surely solve the case, if you people co-operate with us.

Preetha: - Ya, ya, we will fully co-operate with you.

Arindam: -as the best students of Dr. Subhendu, you people were very close to him. I hope that you people also helped him in the medical camps of Midnapore village also, right?

Bumba: -Ya, three of us accompanied him in the camp. But, how did you come to know about that?

Arindam: -Dr. Subhendu wrote in his diary that his best students went with him in the camp. By the way, who is this third person?

Preetha: -It was Sonali. Last month only, she has been murdered. Really, she was such a mysterious girl.

Arindam: -Just hang on. Was Sonali your classmate? Can you please tell me in details about her?

Bumba: -She was a brilliant girl with lots of talent. He got admission in our college after getting good rank in Medical Joint Entrance exam, but she hailed from a very poor family. So, she was always in hunt of earning money, beside the studies. But, it is also true that she was shy and a mysterious girl. We only used to say hi, hello, in our classes. That’s all. She also went in the camp, but hardly there was any further interaction. She always remained in her own world.

Arindam: -Dr. Subhendu bought a laptop of Dell Company. Do you know the name of that person who actually bought it on his behalf?

Bumba: -It was me only. I bought it. Why? What happened?

Arindam: -Nothing at all. I was just clarifying it. Anyway, thanks a lot for your information. In future also, whenever I need any help, I hope that you will fully co-operate with us. Both of you can go now. See you later.

***************************************************************

Ramen: -See, this is the case file of Sonali’s murder. She used to stay in a rented house at Chetla area near the second Durgapur Bridge. For the investigation purpose, we have also sealed her room. Inspector Jyotirmoy is in charge of this case.

*************************************************************

Jyotirmoy: -Yes, yes, we have found a laptop from Sonali’s room, where she was staying? But, we have also opened the motherboard chips and logged into the laptop, by resetting the password. But, we have not found any special documents in that laptop at all. If you are saying that both the murders of Dr.Subhendu and Sonali are related to each other, then you can surely take this laptop with you. I have no problem in that.

Arindam: -Thanks a lot, Inspector Jyotirmoy. Now, start interrogating the local public and try to find out whether Sonali was having any kind of illegal connections or not.

Part – 23

Neela: -Wow, Dad, whose laptop is this; See mom, Dad has bought a laptop.

Arindam: -Ei, don’t disturb. This is not my laptop. This belongs to some other person. Accha, can you help me out? After all, you have better computer knowledge than me. I need to find out the diary pages that Dr. Subhendu has typed here in this laptop.

Neela: -Hmm…ok, I will help you in this regard, but on one condition, if I can find all the written documents of Dr.Subhendu, then you will give me two Dairy Milk chocolate bars.

Arindam: -Uff, your teeth will fall one day. Ok, babah, I will you give you lots of chocolates. Now, please help me out. How to proceed searching for those documents?

Neela: -Go to ‘Run’ and then type ‘*.docx’ and then click on the search. Oh! Wait; let me change the advance settings, where it will search for hidden and system files also. But Dad, I am finding only three .docx file in this laptop. Ok, wait, let me search the ‘*.pdf’ flies. Hmm…there is only 1 .pdf file, which contains details about some kind of medical insurance cover.

Arindam: -Hey Neela, you have done your job. Thanks for that. Now let me check these files. You take these 50 bucks and go and enjoy your Cadbury chocolates.

Neela: -Just hang on, Papa. You never consider me as a big girl. I have found something.

Arindam: -Kavita, see Neela is disturbing me. You please take her from here.

Neela: -I helped you and you are complaining about me to mom. Uuh, I will not help you anymore. I am going to buy Cadbury chocolates. I just wanted to tell you that in one of the .docx file, an URL is typed. The URL is “drsubhendu.blogspot.com”. This may be the link of his personal blog in the blogger.com, where he may have published all his personal diaries. Uuh…I will not help you anymore.

****************************************************************

Arindam: -Yes, Neela was right. Dr. Subhendu used to publish his diaries in this blog only. Let me read it.

1st Post of Dr.Subhendu’s blog

On Yesterday night, there was our first marriage anniversary party. Everyone enjoyed the party. As per Roopali’s request, I kept the provisions for hard drinks in this party. All were in control after drinking, except that Shailesh. I could have blasted him in front of everyone, but as he is also a good friend of Roopali, I said nothing to him. Really, how dare he can propose Sonali in front of everyone in a drunkard mood? Sonali, one of my favorite students came to that party, only because I requested her for many times. She is a poor village girl, not interested in all these parties. Today, she told me that, Shailesh had apologized for his behavior last night. Now, Sonali and Shailesh have become good friends. But, still, I don’t like this Shailesh. His character is very fishy in nature. Not only have that, the medicines that Shailesh gave me are just useless. Whatever medicines I have referred to my regular patients, it is not working at all. But, there are some side-effects taking place, after taking those medicines. The medicines of these Noloki Pharmaceutical companies are just useless.

***********************************************************

Ranajit: - Hello!, yes tell me? What do you want to know about it? Ok, we can meet each other at that place. But, who referred my name to you?

2nd Post of Dr.Subhendu’s blog

Last week, I visited the village as my father was not well due to some viral fever. There, my mother asked me about our future family planning. I said nothing at it, as really we have not planned anything. But, yes, after one year of marriage, if you don’t have a new member in your family, then I am very much aware of this society of Indian villages, they just start whispering about it. Anyway, they are also not wrong. It is not that I don’t want to become a father. I had discussed regarding this matter with Roopali. But, she always gave more preference to her career. Ok, it is not bad that, we are both doctors, we both are careerist in nature, but sometimes I feel that it is hampering our personal relation also. Nowadays, we even have some ego clashes also regarding our profession. I literally got shocked when Roopali told me that within the next two years, she does not want to become a mother. Now, this is really ridiculous. But, still let me try to make her understand again. I hope that she will agree to it.

**********************************************************

Arindam: - This is really bad. That is why; I don’t like a careerist woman.

Kavita: - What happened to you? Why are you shouting suddenly, while reading blogs in that laptop? If you don’t like careerist woman, then why are you investing money on your little girl Neela for her education? Then, when she will grow up, you will say that you don’t like your girl because she has become a careerist.

Arindam: - No boss, I am not saying that. A girl doing a job and having a careerist mind, which is ok; but your first priority should be your family. Why are you earning money? Is it only for you? No, it is for the financial security of your family members. You need to see smile on their face, which is why you are earning.

Kavita: -Oho, don’t be so emotional, babah. You remember that we also faced this kind of situation. After giving birth to Neela, I was in two minds, whether to leave my job or continue.

Arindam: - But, you always gave your family the first priority. I never told you to leave your job. You decided on it. Later, I helped you to become an entrepreneur to open up your own dancing school and fashion boutique shop and today you are a successful business woman. I am proud about you because you maintained the balance between your personal and professional life. You planned well about when to take what decision. Maybe, that is why, our married life is a successful one.

Kavita: -Hmm… it’s ok. But, is it that the married life of Dr.Subhendu is in trouble? Please read the next post in his personal blog.

**********************************************************

3rd Post of Dr. Subhendu’s blog

My wife gave me good news today. She is now fond of eating those pickles, and why not? It is the indication that our little guest will be coming to this world very soon. She made me fool. Actually, she had her own plans, when to have a baby, but played the drama with me that she doesn’t want a baby for 2 years. Even gods fail to understand a woman; I am just an ordinary human being. Already, Dr. Malabika is doing her regular check-ups. She has also booked a bed at the Calcutta Medical Hospital Maternity Ward and has prescribed a date, when Roopali needs to be admitted. My mother is staying here at my Kolkata residence. After all a woman can care another woman in this regard. I am just a useless fellow in these cases. But, this Pinaki always disturbs Roopali. He knows her condition, but still he will call her to perform those emergency operations. I requested Roopali to take more rest. But, it is also true that as a good doctor, your mind never wants to ignore any helpless patient.

4th post of Dr.Subhendu’s blog

Today was really a disastrous day for me. Roopali was crying. My parents were trying to console me about this matter. Well, I was aware that she is going to give birth to a dead child. Last week only, Dr. Malabika called me to her chamber secretly, and told me that the condition of Roopali is so critical that either of the two will survive. So, as a loving husband, I signed the document, where it is clearly stated that I want her to give birth to a dead child, otherwise, she will die. I can have another baby, but I cannot have another sweet wife like Roopali. After all; I love her a lot. Dr. Malabika had promised me that she will keep this issue as a secret to avoid any kind of confusions in our married life.

********************************************************

Neela: - Dad, Ramen uncle has come to meet you. I am going to school now. Tata, Dad.

Arindam: - Tata, my sweetheart, best of luck for your Maths exam today!

Neela: - Thanks, papa! Today, I will try to secure 100 out of 100. Bye.

Arindam: - Come inside Ramen. Please have your seat. Ei Kavita; Ramen has come. We are all waiting for your special Red Label Tea.

Ramen: - Nahi nahi bhabhiji, paresaan mat hoyiye…I will not drink tea. You can make only 1 cup of tea for your hubby only.

Kavita: - Don’t tell me, Ramen! Your Arindam da, is just too much addicted to tea. He drinks tea for 4 times a day, and that too, I have to make the tea, otherwise he will not drink it… uuh…

Arindam: - Ha ha ha … anyway, Ramen, tell me about the updates.

Ramen: - We have interrogated Pratima, the maid- servant of Roopali. She said that many a times, Dr. Subhendu and Roopali used to quarrel with each other. Due to that reason, Dr. Subhendu started having an illegal relationship with one of his favorite students of NRS Medical College. Her name is Sonali. Sonali hails from a very poor background. She was a good student, but side-by-side, she had illegal connections with smugglers and brothel brokers. Moreover, we have got samples of brown sugar and ganja from her apartment; so, the rest you can easily understand. But, we are yet to find out the reason why she got murdered?

Arindam: - Anyway, thanks a lot for your help. I can only come to conclusion, after reading the entire blogs of Dr. Subhendu. But, one thing you have to do. Try to arrest Shailesh, as early as possible. Contact Inspector Yasodhar Rane of Mumbai. He will take care of Shailesh.

***********************************************************

5th post of Dr.Subhendu’s blog

Someone rightly said that the world is round. Today, I was just stunned as well as overjoyed to see my elder sister Moni. She was looking like a skeleton, as she doesn’t get food to eat at her house. She is suffering from Tuberculosis at present. Anyway, when she has come to me, it will be cured. I requested her to visit to our village once, but she rejected it. I was surprised to hear that her husband is in the jail for supplying fake medicines, deadly drugs and co-operating with a kidney smuggling racket. She is not happy with her husband. Her husband always tortures her every night. She has one little boy of 5 years. Her elder daughter of 10 years has been sold by her husband in the Bongaon border areas to a rich brothel broker of Mumbai. I was stunned to hear that to earn money for her family; she is now a regular worker in the red light areas. But one thing, I don’t understand, why she told me to tell Roopali that Pinaki is not a good person and that nursing home has some secret illegal medical operations.

______________________________________________________________________

Part – 26

6th post of Dr. Subhendu’s blog

Roopali is now accusing me that, I am having an illegal relationship with Sonali. Yes, I do have some kind of physical relationships with that poor girl. But, how dare she is shouting at me. Every day, I hear something about Pinaki. People of our locality say that Pinaki is a hardcore playboy, who never hesitates to spend nights with the nurses of that nursing home. What is the guarantee that, he has not done anything with my Roopali? Maybe, it is bad that I doubt on my faithful wife, but still that thorn of suspicion pinches me all the time. To add more salts to the wound, her rude and quarrelling attitude has resulted in a bitter relation between us. I demanded for divorce last night. After all; I am not her servant. I will marry Sonali. I have told Sonali about these things.

***********************************************************

Kavita: - What happened? What are you searching for in these diary pages?

Arindam: - I am searching for the name of Moni’s husband. Yes, there it is. His name is Samiran Mondal.

Kavita: - Uff, this case is yet to get resolved. Baapre baap…

Arindam: - Hello Inspector Rane. I want the full details of Samiran Mondal. I think his name will be there in the Police Diary. He was associated with a kidney smuggling racket.

Rane: - Ok, Arindam. I was just about to call you only. We have arrested Shailesh. He has murdered Pinaki in a flat of Andheri area. We have sealed that place. Primary interrogation has been done. Pinaki and Shailesh both used to run an illegal kidney smuggling racket as well as of fake medicines and drugs. Roopali was unaware of it. That nursing home was the main profit center for them. The person who used to die in the operation theater, immediately their kidney used to get removed. The family members of the dead person were completely unaware of it. Not only have that, they used to shoot pornography videos of the nurses working in that nursing home and used to sell in the market. Sometimes, they have also taken the nude pictures and MMS clips of lady patients. Roopali came to know about all these things after coming to Mumbai only. Pinaki raped Roopali and killed her at the flat in the Malad area, where they were staying for 2 nights.

Arindam: - Well done, Inspector Yasodhar Rane. Accha, just ask Shailesh, whether he knows about Samiran or not? I think he knows him very well.

***********************************************************

7th post of Dr. Subhendu’s blog

Sonali has accepted my proposal. But, she is very much worried about the fact that Roopali is not willing to sign the divorce papers. Sonali became so angry that, she was planning to murder Roopali. I controlled her anger and planned to do it the other way. I will give an injection to Roopali forcefully, and then I will make her sign the document. Oho, Ranajit is also going to come today to tell me that the medical insurance scheme has got matured after 12 years. He wants me to sign a document to renew the scheme with some added benefits. Samiran has also opened a LIC scheme under Ranajit only, as I referred his name to Moni.

*********************************************************

Ramen: - Sir, we have just got the dead body of Samiran on the Lalgola Railway tracks. We are sending it for the post-mortem. Two days back, he got released from the jail. Maybe, I think, he has committed suicide.

_______________________________________________________________

Part -27

Arindam: - Oh! Shit, this was the last blog posted by Dr. Subhendu. Really, I am yet to solve the mystery.

Kavita: - The romantic life of a doctor and his wife ended like this! Hmm… after all these are all destiny! If Roopali would have taken care of herself during the pregnancy period, there would have been no such problem at all. As a woman, if you cannot become a mother, it really hurts and become frustrating. And, what kind of a man is this Dr. Subhendu? Without giving moral support to his wife, he went for an illegal relationship.

Arindam: - Dr. Subhendu is also a human being. When he found that Roopali does not love him as much as she used to do, then automatically, Sonali took the advantage. But, what actually happened on that night? Where was Pratima at that time? Only, that little maid-servant can help me out to solve the case. Let me call Ramen.

Ramen: - Hello Arindam, tell me. Ok, ok, as you say. At 4.30 PM today, we will interrogate Pratima.

********************* *********************************

Indranil: - Hi, Arindam. What is the matter? You have called all of us here at the special interrogation hall of your Police Station. Arrey, Bikramjit is also here. How are you, Bikramjit?

Bikramjit: - I am fine. Actually, Arindam has called all of us, to tell us that the case of Dr. Subhendu is solved.

Biren: - Please tell us who has killed our son Subhendu.

Arindam: - Well, it is your son-in-law, who has killed your son.

Mrinalini: - What are you saying? No, we don’t believe this thing.

Arindam: - Ok, if you don’t believe me, then at least hear from this little girl, Pratima, who used to work as a maid-servant in Dr. Subhendu’s house…! Pratima, please tell us, what happened that night?

Pratima: - on that evening, Dr. Subhendu was waiting for Ranajit, the LIC agent. But he did not come. Dr. Subhendu was prepared with that injection syringe for Roopali. But suddenly, I saw a man with a mask on his face entered the room from the balcony window; he killed Dr. Subhendu with a Nepali dagger (bhojali). On the other hand, Sonali was hiding at that spot only, and took the video with her mobile camera. Later I saw, Sonali called that man by the name Samiran. Samiran and Sonali was discussing something, which I could not hear. I was very scared and was hiding in that room, otherwise they would have also killed me. When Roopali came back home, she was so terrified, that she called Pinaki on his mobile phone. Pinaki told her to get out from that place, otherwise, she may fall into trouble that she has murdered her hubby. At that situation, Roopali was so tensed that she went to Pinaki’s house with all her necessary belongings. Later, I also ran away from that house, when Samiran and Sonali went out.

Arindam: - Sonali wrote that letter, where it was written that Roopali has murdered her hubby. I checked Roopali’s handwriting. There was slight mismatch in the letters like ‘r’ and ‘d’. That is why; I took all the notebooks of Roopali from Bikramjit’s house to check the handwriting. Now, you will ask, why Samiran killed Dr. Subhendu. Well, firstly, Samiran was a killer by profession. Shailesh gave him the supaari to kill Dr.Subhendu, as he came to know all the details about their fake medicines and kidney smuggling racket from Moni. Secondly, Moni is the nominee of a medical insurance scheme which got matured after 12 years. Mr. Biren opened that medical insurance 12 years back in the name of his son. Samiran got the information from Ranajit only. So, after Subhendu’s death, Moni will get the money of that insurance. But, as Dr. Subhendu has not died a natural death, so, unless the Police investigation is completed, Moni will not get the money. This thing frustrated Samiran a lot. On the other hand, Sonali demanded 50,000 bucks by blackmailing Samiran that she has the video of Dr.Subhendu’s murder. That is why; Sonali got killed by the gang men of Samiran and Shailesh at Chetla area only. Samiran after coming out of the jail got the information that, he will be hanged very soon. That is why; he committed suicide.

Indranil: - Bravo, Arindam. I am proud of you such CID officer. At last, I was right that Roopali is not the murderer of Subhendu. After all; they were the real love birds. Due to this Pinaki, their life ended in dilemma.

************** *******************************************

Kavita: - Uff, at last the case of Dr. Subhendu is closed. But, one thing, I don’t understand. Samiran is a killer by profession. Now, suddenly, how he got some ethical values in his mind, that he committed suicide like a coward.

Arindam: - Ha ha ha … no one knows the actual fact that his wife Moni has killed him in a very efficient style to take the revenge of his younger brother’s murder. Moni has now received the entire money of the medical insurance cover. Now, she is living the life of a widow with her parents and her little 5 years old boy in the Kultuli village only. I could have easily kept her behind the bars with a life sentence, but after all. I am also a human being. She has killed a killer, which the Police Department was unable to do for several years. This case could have never been solved by me, without the help of this “Doctors’ Diary”. My Sweetheart, now I am feeling thirsty. Can I have some hot milk, dear?

Kavita: - Issh…you are so naughty at this age also. You can drink the hot milks only in the midnight, while riding on me…he he he …Uff, again your mobile phone is ringing.

Arindam: - Ya, tell me Ramen. What? It is a new case of “COUPLE PASS”. Ok, I will come tomorrow at your Police Station at 3 PM, to take charge of that case. Now, I am in a romantic mood with your bhabhiji…So, please don’t disturb. Good Night.

Neela: - Oops!, I am sorry not to knock the door. Mom, today Dad is not reading any diary, maybe, that is why; he is in a total romantic mood. Dad, Have a sweet night with my lovely mom. Good Night.

Kavita: - Uff, babah re babah, really, I have no doubt that Neela is your daughter only…he he he …Now, let me kiss you hard….mmmuaaah…he he he …you are so sweet, my dear hubby…

***THE END***
